Fakos Apiary
This was the third time that our honey has been distinguished and calibrated with the gold award of the MTA and this gives us the special pleasure to realize that the correct beekeeping practice together with our years of work on beekeeping gives this excellent result. But above all, consistency, persistence and adaptation to the demands of climate change became a valuable lesson for the future and how we will evolve further. All this we would not have discovered if we had not sent our honey to this demanding competition.

Can you share a bit of your company’s background?
Between 2011 and 2012, we were introduced to the enchanting world of bees, a world that captivated us so deeply that it became our sole focus. We embarked on a journey of learning, endured hardships, and savored the sweetest adventures with these remarkable creatures.
As first-generation beekeepers, we embarked on a gradual journey to master the art of beekeeping. Simultaneously, we delved into the study of the primary and secondary products of the hive, generously bestowed by the wondrous bee.
In 2021, 2023 and 2024 we got the gold award for superior quality from the international Mediterranean Taste Awards tasting competition!
With the philosophy that the bee is our partner, more mature now, after 11 consecutive years we have a small beekeeping unit that produces pure, unique and traditional products. Our apiaries are located in Evοia; however, as nomadic beekeepers, we travel to many regions of Greece.
What are your goals for the future of your company? How do you plan to continue pushing boundaries in food and beverage industry while staying true to your roots?
With the philosophy that the bee is our partner, more mature now, after 11 consecutive years we have a small beekeeping unit that produces pure, unique and traditional products. Our apiaries are located in Evοia; however, as nomadic beekeepers, we travel to many regions of Greece.

Do you have any upcoming products or innovations that you are particularly excited about?
We have already developed a variety of products based on honey and nuts and which have already been presented at exhibitions in our country with great appeal.
What makes your product different? Why should consumers choose your brand?
The application of good beekeeping practice combined with the nomadic journey we make every year in our production process give us flavors and aromas uniquely imprinted in our products.

How much has technology helped you, and do your product(s) have sustainable and environmentally friendly characteristics?
When we started our beekeeping business the technology was still limited in terms of the specialized knowledge needed to get to where we are today. Reading from specialized books, testing, successes and failures have been the result of a conquest that we have achieved so far. Today, 11 years later there are even more possibilities than then. Certainly the technology was also present then, it’s just that nowadays access to knowledge is easier.
Does your product(s) have sustainable and environmentally friendly characteristics?
Any beekeeping activity is not only environmentally friendly, but is key to keeping the environment thriving in its diversity. Pollination has a critical role for the environment and every beekeeping activity has a positive environmental footprint.
To what degree has climate change affected your production and business development?
Beekeeping is based on the tripartite man – bee – environment. If any of the three are disturbed then beekeeping does not exist. The bee is, within certain limits, an adaptive organism and since the environment is disturbed then we must adjust our work with it to maintain this threefold relationship.
